Philosophy
The intensity may ease up, but the training should never stop. We are Forever In Training... I encounter many people who have a new fitness goal. They may want to complete their first 5K, set a personal best in an event or they are just beginning their fitness journey. I find it interesting that most people have already set a date for their training to end. They plan to get to a certain point and will have done enough for now. It is not unusual for those same people to show up a few months later to start all over again and find they are in worse shape than before. The ideal fitness plan is one that is consistent and long lasting. Much like avoiding Yo-Yo dieting, we should avoid long gaps in our fitness training.
Our bodies have the ability to adapt to stress. When we start a fitness routine, we are requiring our bodies to adapt to that stress. It is that adaptation that allows us to become stronger, faster and healthier. If we lower the stress, or the frequency of the stress, our bodies will adapt accordingly. If you stop your fitness routine, you body will adapt and decrease your fitness to match its current needs. Unfortunately, we become unfit in a lot less time than it took us to get fit. If we don’t use it, we will lose it.
Client Base
A personal trainer has many responsibilities to the client. I believe we should not only train our clients, but teach them. It is important that our clients understand their training and how to continue that training when time doesn’t allow them a personal visit. Personal training is just that, "Personal". Your fitness routine should fit your goals and be something that you enjoy. We should pay attention to your likes and dislikes and be sure you get the most out of your training and keep you injury free.
All clients are created equal. I enjoy training those new to fitness, the fitness enthusiast and the hard core athlete. The training principles I use can be customized to any and all clients. Over the past 10 years I have progressed through all three levels. I consider myself a part time fitness enthusiast and a part time hard core athlete. You have to have fun with your training and avoid being serious all the time. Whether you want to drop some pounds, complete your first Ironman or something in between, I can help.
